Unlike traditional methods, which dye fabric before cutting and sewing, garment dyeing involves dyeing the finished garment. This process begins with producing the garment using undyed fabric, also known as "grey cloth." Once the garments are fully assembled, they undergo the dyeing process. Typically, the garments are washed or treated to remove any impurities, and then immersed in a dye bath. The dye is absorbed by the fabric, producing the desired color.
In addition, dyeing clothes can provide better colorfastness because the dye penetrates the fabric fibers more deeply than pre-dyed fabrics. It can also reduce the risk of fading or discoloration during subsequent washing.
